We have all seen the ads; unbelievably gorgeous models with yay high skirts showing of their flawless, milky white skin to the poor countless wannabes.

Of course there is a ridiculously expensive product being endorsed at the end of those commercial. Thanks to the internet however, we all know just how ineffective (and sometimes dangerous) these products can be.

To me using whitening products always seemed similar to hacking out at the skin to make it do something that it really does not desire. Want to know how to lighten skin naturally? Read on…

Reasons Why People Want to Lighten Their Skin

Often there are several factors behind the reasoning for one wanting a lighter skin tone.

Some of the most common reasons that I hear and see often have psychological distress such as self insecurities, loss of confidence, embarrassment, anxiety, and sometimes even depression tied to them. I classify these folks in the skin condition and skin blemish category.

By far the most common reason for someone to lighten their skin is because of dark patches of skin aka sun or age spots, from too much exposure to UVA rays, hyperpigmentation, melasma, acne damage, dark underarms, or just a skin tone that has become uneven, these people suffer from a condition.

There are many reasons that lead your skin to overproduce melanin, which darkens your pigmentation, and that is exactly what is happening in these specific areas where the condition is visible.

Beauty Indeed Is Under The Skin

Ever wonder why white, glowing skin is considered attractive?

Yes part of it has something to do with the fact that most of the socially successful people happen to be white, but there is a deeper reason for it.

Having a glowing white complexion is also indicative of good health and that is what you should primarily concern yourself with.

Your skin is your body’s largest organ and it reflects your inner well being; really, all you need to do to get that fair and lovely skin is eat healthy, drink plenty of water, sleep regularly, exercise often, moisturize your skin and protect yourself from the sun.

As a matter of fact your skin is one of the very first places you will begin to see changes if you are suffering from bad health.

The Association Between Health And Skin

Perceived healthiness was always known to be a strong mate attractor amongst animals and the game does not change for us humans either.

Now new research being conducted at the Saint Andrews University in Scotland has shown that people who have a “rosy” complexion are thought of as healthier and thus more desirable.

The research pointed to the fact that skin with more blood and oxygen supplied was unanimously considered beautiful by their sample population.

Says Mr. Ian Stephen, psychologist and lead researcher – “People who are physically fit or have higher levels of sex hormones have more of these blood vessels and flush easier than people who are unhealthy, unfit, elderly or smokers. Since your attractiveness relies on how healthy you look, you might be able to make yourself more attractive by being kind to your heart and lungs in doing more exercise or quitting smoking”.

The head of St Andrews University, Professor Dave Perrett adds: “Our evaluators all thought that bright red blood with lots of oxygen looked healthier than darker, slightly bluer blood with lower oxygen levels. It is remarkable that people can see this subtle difference.”

Keep This In Mind …Lighten Skin Safely

Health and Safety

With many of the most common active ingredients found in chemical based skin bleaching products entering a period to where they have been around long enough for scientific studies to prove that they can be extremely dangerous in the long run, safety is the most important factor here.

These dangers do not just pertain to skin damage …

You need to realize that the chemicals present in these over the counter products are absorbed into your body through your skin, causing much more severe issues than just damage to your skin.

For example, Mercury can be found in many of the top bleaching products on the market today.

Studies have shown that Mercury can cause major health problems such as kidney complications, various cancers, neurological problems, and cause psychiatric disorders.

Another example is Hydroquinone, which is the single most common active ingredient found in skin bleaching products. Hydroquinone has been shown to be very harsh for your skin, is considered to be a carcinogenic that may encourage the growth of cancer cells, and in fact it has actually been recently banned for sale in the UK, EU, Japan, and Canada.

Some other common non-natural skin lightening treatments and the problems with them

Some of the options available include laser treatment. Laser treatment is expensive, can be uncomfortable for you, and cause side effects like bruising or

Cryosurgery is another expensive option but only of use for larger spots.
Liquid nitrogen is applied to your skin that will make the first layer peel off. There is more risk with this type of removal as it is difficult to control. Too long on the skin and it can be damaged permanently. This is another extremely expensive form of treatment with the side effect if the treatment is not accurate, permanent white spotting may occur.

But the reality of it all is that you do not need to put your body and overall health at risk in order to make your skin a lighter tone, or to even your skin tone. Lightening your skin naturally is going to be 100% completely risk free for your skin and your health, and the results when done correctly match those that use harmful chemicals.

Money and Cost

Many of you may already know that skin lightening creams, peels, laser treatments, and pills become extremely expensive to keep up with. Going through tube after tube of the next best solution chasing that miracle cream, and dermatologist visit after dermatologist visit really begin to add up quickly.

Wouldn’t you rather have all of that money to spend on a vacation???

Get That Healthy White Skin Now

Alright, so this establishes that good health and a fair and beautiful skin go hand in hand, now how to lighten skin without buying all sorts of expensive products? Well first of all you will need to make a commitment to improving your health, trying to maintain a plethora of bad habits which actually darken your skin and then using whitening products to ensure your skin lightens up is asking for trouble, believe me!

Here are some measures you can take to ensure that your skin lightens naturally:
Drink Plenty Of Water Everyday

Drinking plenty of water is the first recommendations doctors make when they are asked how to lighten skin. You don’t need to do this simply to whiten up your skin; you should be drinking at least 2 liters of water every day anyways so make sure that you ingrain this into your daily habits! When you drink more water, you help your skin flush out toxins faster and more efficiently which can reduce its dark undertones. Plenty of water intakes also ensure that your skin remains moisturized which is important for maintaining a fair complexion.

Besides water, you can also consume soups and fresh fruit juices to ensure hydration and also an adequate intake of essential minerals and vitamins.

Eat Good Fats And Anti Oxidants

Omega 3 fats are something you should consider taking in more if you are serious about improving your complexion. These fats are abundantly found in olive, flax, salmon, tuna, halibut, walnuts, almonds, pumpkin and sunflower. Omega 3 fat can reduce inflammation prevent itchy dry skin and while making it smoother.

Rinse Your Face With Hot Water And Lemon Juice

Lemon juice has been known to be a natural bleacher and is a great way to lighten up your skin. Lemon juice is known to be a natural bleacher and can reduce dark spots and acne in the skin. Squeeze 1 lemon into a gallon of hot water and rinse your face with it. You will need to do this at least 3 times a week to see results, although it is recommended that you practice it every day. Know that lemon juice can make your skin sensitive to sunlight so you should use a moisturizer and a sunscreen lotion with it.

Another way to how to lighten your skin naturally is using a combination of lemon juice, chamomile tea with cool honey as a face mask. Apply this solution to your face 3-4 times a week. As this solution covers your entire face, it helps to tackle uneven skin tone which often develops when people try to lighten skin tones.
Finally make sure that you exfoliate your skin as dead skin can hinder in the absorption of lightening agents, thereby causing uneven skin tones.

Use Soaps With Milk Content In Them

Milk besides its natural benefits is also known to lighten the skin. Milk is rich in lactic acid which when applied to skin can reduce dark circles, dark spots and acne. There are plenty of soaps available these days which have natural milk additives in them. You can also apply milk directly to your skin for better results; both goat milk and cow milk can be used for this.

Exercise Regularly

If you are serious about lightening up your skin, you should consider exercising as often as you can. Exercise, especially aerobics help elevate heart rate which gets your blood flowing and allows greater oxygen intake, both of which are pivotally important for maintaining a good healthy, glowing skin. When you exercise your body also loses waste materials in the form of sweat, this in turn can open up pores and cleanse them thereby reducing dark spots in your skin.

Avoid Direct Exposure To Sunlight

Direct exposure can darken your skin very quickly. If you have to stay in the sun for too long, you run the risk of making your skin darker by pigmentation, not to mention you can also get sun burns. Use a good sunscreen lotion when you are out in the sun in order to ensure that you do not damage your skin.

topThere are many people who are looking for natural age spot remedies. Generally thought of as being caused by aging, these spots often appear as a result of other causes, as well.

Also called “liver spots” or “sun spots”, they usually seem to appear in the case of people around the age of 55 or above.

While the spots themselves may not be dangerous, those who have them often find the problem to be quite debilitating, because very few remedies are known to cure age spots permanently.

Also, a lot of additional problems can appear, most of them of a psychological nature.

Many people, for instance, end up suffering from anxiety, depression or low self esteem, and find it very difficult to build up enough confidence in order to show themselves in public because of this.

Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation For those of you who just asked “what the heck is post inflammatory hyperpigmentation”, let me first clear that up for you. Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the discoloration of your skin after an inflammatory wound has healed.

The color usually varies from pinkish to brown, and is most commonly present after your skin has been inflamed, say from a acne, a wound, or rash. This triggers your skin to produce an excessive amount of melanin, which is the underlying factor in determining the color of your skin.

So, effectively, what has happened is that in the areas where your skin is uneven or darker, your body has produced too much melanin in that specific area.
